MOUNT HOPE BRIDGE, SUBSTRUCTURE REPAIRS

LOCATION:    BRISTOL/PORTSMOUTH, RI

The Mount Hope Bridge is a two-lane suspension bridge spanning Narragansett Bay in RI. Its towers are 285 feet tall, the length of the main span is 1,200 feet and it offers 135 feet of clearance over high water. The total length of the bridge is 6,130 feet. This rehabilitation project consisted of several unrelated retrofit/repairs: concrete encasement of two 50-foot piers, installation of scour jackets on three piers, concrete bridge deck repairs, application of asphaltic chip seal overlay, painting of the bridge support bents, concrete pedestal repairs, miscellaneous steel repairs, concrete wingwall reconstruction, and four-bar crash rail installation.
