RIDOT DESIGN BUILD CONTRACT 2 I-295 - RT 6

Project Overview

AECOM, as the lead designer, was responsible for project management, quality control, bridge design, subsurface investigations, foundation design, highway design, traffic analysis, traffic control design, stormwater analysis, environmental permitting, and SharePoint administration. Aetna Bridge was responsible for all aspects of construction.

AECOM and Aetna Bridge teamed on this highly successful Design-Build (DB) project, which expedited the design and construction of twin two-span bridges measuring approximately 240 feet and 150 feet in length over Routes 6 and 6A in Johnston, Rhode Island. The bridges were replaced in two phases rather than the three phases originally shown in the Basis of Design (BTC), significantly reducing impacts to local traffic.

Aetna Bridge further accelerated completion of the northbound bridge work to meet the RhodeWorks tolling system “go-live” date. Although there was no contractual requirement to achieve this interim milestone, revised construction sequencing and additional effort enabled the tolling system to be tested on schedule. This proactive approach saved RIDOT the expense of relocating cameras and reconfiguring the tolling system.
